When your rich boss ghosts you on payday, there are a lot of bigger issues going on. Either your boss is negligent and simply doesn't care about their business (you know, the hobbyist type), or money simply isn't a factor to them– they don't imagine that being paid is the primary reason folks stay employed. We're not out here working for free, people! This goes double when you're a university student. You're already barely surviving on instant ramen and free pizza at parties, so when your paycheck doesn't roll in from your part time job, you're in a huge bind.
In this case, OP was a struggling Uni student with a part time gig as a server. Their boss didn't care to actually run an ethical business and keep employees around, and after weeks of not being paid, OP had decided they'd had enough. They sent in their resignation to the boss and said they were leaving because they hadn't been paid. The boss promptly asked for an in-person meeting to square up the money they owed.
OP agreed and went to go get that bag.
